Job summary

Thetford Academy, part of Inspiration Trust, seeks an outstanding Science teacher for maternity cover. The role is 0.6 FTE (19.5 hours over Mon-Wed) starting November 2026, fixed term to 30 September 2027, based at Thetford Academy.

You will collaborate with the Science team to deliver a knowledge-rich curriculum and raise pupil attainment. Candidates should hold QTS (or be on track) with a degree in the subject, and be prepared for professional development and safeguarding responsibilities

Qualifications

• An appropriate degree and QTS qualifications.
• QTS status or trainees on track to achieve QTS.
• Knowledge of Equal Opportunities, Health & Safety, SEND and Child Protection.
• Ability to communicate effectively and build positive relationships.
• Subject knowledge to undergraduate level with varied teaching approaches.
• Experience teaching the subject in secondary schools (11-16).
• Experience supporting pupil personal development and form tutoring.
• Postgraduate qualification in the subject or teaching of the subject.

Responsibilities

• Teach the science curriculum and prepare pupils for examinations.
• Collaborate with colleagues and contribute to school learning.
• Deliver interventions and revision sessions as needed.
• Plan collaboratively and adapt teaching for SEND/EAL students.
• Assess pupil progress and provide reports to support development.
• Support enrichment activities and departmental discussions.
• Maintain professional conduct and engage in performance reviews.
• Promote the Trust and Academy policies and Health & Safety standards.
• Safeguard pupils and monitor attendance and behaviour.
• Serve as a form tutor and support pastoral programmes.
