The Opportunity

We are seeking to appoint a talented part-time Researcher to undertake original research and analysis on disability policy issues. It is a unique opportunity for a researcher to create maximum policy impact, and your work will help to improve the lives of disabled people across the UK.

If you are someone who shares our passion to improve disabled people’s lives, and who is enthusiastic about researching, designing and implementing the policy solutions to address this, we would love to hear from you.

We particularly welcome applications from disabled candidates, and we have designed a part-time role specifically to support those from a range of backgrounds and requirements. The contract is for a fixed term (12 Months) but with potential for renewal and extension.

Who We Are

We are the first independent think tank of its kind in the UK, dedicated to the development and advancement of policy, ensuring that accessibility is at the heart of legislation. Founded in 2021, we have produced 10 policy reports, shaping seven policy recommendations at the Government level, and our research sits at the heart of this work. Through our research, we have engaged over 1,200 disabled people, carers and their representatives, working with 400 stakeholders and over 35 charities, research organisations and institutional partners.

What You Will Do

  • Conduct qualitative and quantitative research and analysis, helping to write our research findings and recommendations across a range of formats, from longer reports to shorter comment pieces.
  • Support the delivery of our research projects on topics such as access and representation, welfare, employment, transport and more, undertaking data analysis where required.
  • Work with the team and our Co-Founder & Director to help organise and deliver events, roundtables and policy discussions.
  • Help monitor and report on Parliamentary and Government business, disability news and shape our responses in the media, where appropriate.

Experience (Essential)

  • A passion and understanding of the policy issues facing disabled people in the UK.
  • Experience of detailed analysis and writing research on social issues and policy.
  • Proven ability as a structured thinker to deal with complexity and uncertainty, and as a self-starter able to work under your own initiative.
  • Experience working in research, public policy, social or financial sector.
  • Work experience in policy-led research, such as from another think tank or policy-led research organisation, Parliament or local government.
  • Knowledge of specific areas of disability policy, such as welfare, employment, representation or transport.

We also particularly welcome applications from candidates who are earlier in their research or policy careers and are keen to develop their skills in a supportive learning and development environment.

Don’t meet every requirement? If you’re excited about this role, but your past experience doesn’t perfectly align with every qualification in the job description, we encourage you to apply anyway.
