Job summary

Newcastle University is seeking researchers to join the RAPID project, developing real-time predictive monitoring for railway adhesion management. The role involves embedded sensing systems, lab and field testing, and collaboration with industry partners to advance AI platforms for railway trials.

The position is part-time (18.5 hours/week) on a fixed-term basis for 9 months, with salary around £34,630–£36,320 per annum pro rata and excellent university benefits.

Qualifications

• Honours degree in Engineering or related discipline.
• Experience in product design and prototyping engineering solutions.
• Attention to detail and high accuracy.
• Ability to present complex information effectively to varied audiences.
• Proven ability to analyse data and write up results.

Responsibilities

• From conceptual design to optimisation of embedded sensing systems for railway applications.
• Contribute to laboratory, rig-based and field testing of RAPID prototypes.
• Collaborate with industry stakeholders during compliance assessment and railway trials.
• Coordinate own work with others and plan project milestones.
