Job Summary

We wish to recruit a part‑time Practice Nurse to join Amersham Vale Practice in Deptford, Lewisham. The practice is based at the Waldron Health Centre, a modern facility in the heart of Deptford. Amersham Vale is a 16,000‑patient training practice with a diverse clinical team, including Advanced Nurse Practitioners and a Clinical Pharmacist.

Responsibilities

• Implement and evaluate treatment plans for patients with long‑term conditions.
• Provide long‑term disease management based on experience and training.
• Perform venepuncture and collect pathology samples (blood, sputum, urine, etc.).
• Care for uncomplicated wounds: removal of sutures, wound assessment, cleaning and dressing.
• Manage burns, scalds and ulcer care (pressure dressings training not required).
• Implement and participate in vaccination and immunisation programmes.
• Provide routine immunisations (e.g., flu, COVID, childhood) and ear care (irrigation).
• Prescribe medication within the scope of competence where qualified.
• Perform other clinical duties as required within the scope of practice.
• Maintain accurate clinical notes and refer to GPs when appropriate.
• Support infection prevention and control measures and promote health education.

Qualifications and Experience

• Essential
  • Registered Nurse (UK) with current registration.
  • Experience in primary care, practice or community nursing.
  • Experience in chronic disease management.
  • Knowledge of infection prevention and control measures.
  • Competence in venepuncture and handling pathology tests.
• Desirable
  • Postgraduate diploma or degree in primary‑care medicine.
  • Non‑medical prescriber status.

• Wound care and removal of sutures and staples.

• Accurate clinical note recording and referral processes.
