Job description

Part Time Phlebotomist or HCA (1 Year Fixed Term)

Closing date: 23/08/2025. Interview date: 03/09/2025.

The following are the core responsibilities of the primary care healthcare assistant. There may be occasional requirements to undertake additional tasks or extensive training to acquire new responsibilities, depending on factors such as GP contractual requirements, workload, and staffing levels.

Responsibilities include:
  1. Phlebotomy: Venepuncture as instructed by Doctor or Senior Nurse. Complete path lab request forms and send to the lab using ICE software. Input data into practice-based computer system (PCS).
  2. Blood pressure monitoring: Perform blood pressure checks and 24-hour BP monitoring as directed by practice protocol or under instruction of doctor or senior nurse. Arrange home BP administration as per protocol.
  3. Urine checks: Conduct dips, pregnancy testing, etc., overseen by clinician.
  4. NHS Health Checks: Input all data into the practice computer system using health status prompts template. Record significant chronic diseases and arrange follow-up as necessary.
  5. Carers: Identify carers, undertake health checks, and signpost to Carer Link Worker for Bradford Carers Support.
  6. Long Term Condition reviews: Conduct blood pressure monitoring and record all activity. Contribute to practice incentive targets and data collection for QOF, PCN, and LES.
  7. Stock Control and Room Management: Order lab and medical supplies, ensure rooms are ready, and monitor emergency drug stocks monthly.
  8. Data Quality, Confidentiality, and GDPR: Maintain knowledge of practice computer systems, troubleshoot, and adhere to data governance principles. Check email and manage tasks daily.
  9. DMARD monitoring (desirable): Report and undertake blood testing as per guidelines.
  10. Theatre Assistance & Chaperone: Support contraceptive implant and IUCD insertions, distribute patient leaflets, and attend training as required.
  11. Incident & Risk Management: Report incidents or faults promptly and adhere to policies to minimize risks.
  12. Housekeeping: Maintain tidiness and perform tea/coffee duties as needed.
