Licensed Dispensing Optician
Job description
Overview

Scarborough, ON - Morningside Crossing. $32/hour. Starting Date - Nov 2, 2025.

Like you, we know the value and expertise a licensed optician brings to eyecare for customers and patients. As eye health is our top priority, we have OCT scans as a standard part of pre-testing. We are focused on putting customers first by offering top-quality products and prioritizing a quick turnaround to get glasses to customers as quickly as possible. As we grow to open 200 stores across Canada in two years, we recognize the importance of having licensed opticians on the floor at each store at all times — that’s why we need your optical expertise.

Your licensed optician opportunity: You chose a career in dispensing to make a difference by ensuring that every customer leaves with an eyecare regimen that meets their needs. We support you in interpreting prescriptions, advising customers on suitable options, and fitting new glasses beautifully. We are here to elevate your role by providing the tools and support you need to do what you love—providing quality eyecare and eyewear to customers.

Responsibilities
  • Product Excellence: We use the latest clinical technology, rigorous testing, and extensive quality assurance processes to develop our lenses so you can support customers and patients with a full range of top-quality products you’re proud to offer.
  • Clinical Excellence: We rely on your clinical expertise to deliver clinical excellence — we’re placing contact lens practitioners at the heart of contact lens dispensing. You’ll have access to leading equipment, such as OCT for all patients, to ensure every patient receives accessible, high-quality eyecare.
  • Support: Opticians are supported and empowered by Specsavers to practice within the full scope of their qualifications, while being encouraged to further their career growth.
  • Professional Development: As optics experts, opticians will mentor student opticians and the retail team to support the development of our people and consistently deliver high standards of service.
Benefits
  • Being part of a company that values opticians as a key piece of our business — our vision is to elevate the role of Opticians by placing opticianry at the heart of our business, alongside optometry.
  • A commitment to ongoing professional development: annual stipend toward attendance of industry events, opticianry development training programs, and support for completion of the Continuing Competence Program/Quality Assurance Program Opticianry.
  • In some locations, we cover 100% of OAC membership and licensing renewal fees.
  • Opportunity to set a benchmark for patient care, grow your clinic through patient trust, long-term care, and referrals.
  • EAP, 3 weeks' vacation, 6 sick days (PT and FT), one paid volunteer day per year, and birthdays off.
  • Get your first 2 pairs of glasses free and enjoy discounted rates for additional Specsavers products.
  • Access to the latest clinical technology, training, and opportunities to be involved from the start of our journey in Canada, with potential for future ownership opportunities.
Qualifications

You will need to be a licensed/registered optician holding a valid Dispensing Optician and/or Contact Lens Fitter License in your province. Beyond your experience, you should be passionate about eyecare and committed to exceptional customer experience and patient care.
