Job summary

University of Hertfordshire is seeking an experienced MBBS Head of Assessment to shape and lead the assessment function as the Medical School develops. The postholder will oversee the assessment framework across the five-year MBBS programme, with direct responsibility for assessment delivery in Years 1 and 2.

The role requires substantial experience in medical education and assessment design, plus GMC-related knowledge and a commitment to student-centered assessment.

Qualifications

• Substantial experience of medical education and assessment, including assessment design, blueprinting, standard setting, psychometrics and quality assurance.
• MBBS or equivalent medical qualification; GMC registration and postgraduate study desirable.

Responsibilities

• Lead assessment strategy, governance and quality assurance in line with GMC requirements.
• Oversee formative and summative assessments and chair question‑writing, review and standard‑setting groups.
• Act as Chief and Principal Examiner for Years 1 and 2, including moderation and OSCE oversight.
• Collaborate with examinations team to analyse student performance and with external examiners and regulatory stakeholders.
• Guide, mentor and develop assessment staff to drive continuous improvement.
