Job summary

King’s College School is seeking an assistant groundsperson to support its grounds team. Based near Wimbledon Common in south east England, the post involves assisting with maintenance of sports facilities and pitches at the main site and Kingsway, with training provided.

The role is 25 hours per week (Mon-Fri, 8am–1pm) with a salary of £20,347 per annum. Uniform and PPE are provided; willingness to work outdoors and as part of a team is essential.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience as a groundsperson or similar.
  • Good understanding of field markings.
  • Experience of mechanical repairs and the ability to mend machinery.
  • Knowledge and experience of working with synthetic sports pitches/surfaces.
  • Ability to work well as part of a team.
  • Flexible and enthusiastic approach to work.
  • Ability to work without supervision and prioritise workload according to fixture lists and weather conditions.
  • NVQ in turf management (or similar) desirable.
  • Driving licence desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Under the direction of the head groundsperson, preparing and maintaining the sports facilities, including artificial surfaces, at the main KCS school site and the sports grounds at Kingsway, to recognised national standards and to the satisfaction of all users.
  • Providing grounds staff support to matches/fixtures when required.
  • Assisting grounds staff/head groundsperson with working with various different types of hand machinery and equipment to prepare and maintain football, rugby, cricket and hockey pitches, as well as artificial surfaces.
  • Assisting grounds staff/head groundsperson with general maintenance of equipment as directed.
  • Assisting grounds staff/head groundsperson with light tree pruning, hedge cutting and maintenance of paths, including leaf collection.
  • Assisting grounds staff/head groundsperson with maintaining grounds and sports related buildings and facilities.
  • Attending meetings and events, as directed.
  • Undertaking any other reasonable duties as directed by the head groundsperson.
