Part-time Gardener Vacancy

An experienced Gardener is sought for 24 hours per week to maintain a large private garden near Sutton Bingham Reservoir on the Somerset/Dorset border.

The position is permanent.

The 5-acre garden surrounds a lovely Grade 2 listed family home. It consists of 2 ponds, a semi-tropical garden surrounding a swimming pool, a loggia, a multitude of climbing plants surrounding the house, extensive hedging, specimen trees, herbaceous borders and large areas of lawn.

The successful candidate will be required to manage most aspects of the garden under the guidance of an experienced head gardener and will need a good level of gardening knowledge and competency.

The role comprises of maintaining the garden, which will include sowing seeds, planting flowers, shrubs and trees along with essential tasks like fertilising and pruning as needed. You will also need to attend to the lawn care. This is to include all aspects of lawn maintenance, including regular mowing, edging and general upkeep of lawns. The role will also include weeding and removing weeds, fallen leaves and other debris through regular cycles of composting and burning. You will need to identify and effectively address pest infestations that affect plants in the garden. You will be responsible for ensuring all gardening tools and equipment used are kept in excellent working order.

Working hours are flexible.

Due to the rural situation, own transport is essential.

The role would suit an experienced self-employed gardener.

Salary: £20 per hour
