Job summary

KCR is seeking a part-time Financial Controller to join a charity on the outskirts of Durham. You will oversee day-to-day accounting, produce management accounts, budgets and forecasts, and ensure compliance with charity regulations.

The role involves working closely with department heads to develop financial strategies, control costs and optimise revenue streams, while monitoring cash flow and supporting external funders. Hybrid, flexible working offered.

Qualifications

• Qualified accountant or equivalent senior finance experience.
• Experience working in charities or non-profit organisations preferred.
• Strong knowledge of VAT for complex organisations.

Responsibilities

• Overseeing day-to-day charity accounting.
• Prepare monthly management accounts, budgets, and forecasts.
• Submit financial reports and statutory filings in line with charity rules.
• Provide financial analysis to support senior management decisions.
• Develop financial strategies with department heads to control costs and optimise revenue.
• Monitor cash flow and ensure funds for operational needs.
• Oversee billing and collections processes.
• Liaise with external auditors for annual audits.
• Ensure compliance with financial regulations including charity requirements.
• Lead annual budget preparation aligned with charity goals.
• Provide variance analyses and budget forecasts to leadership.
• Deliver monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports for management, trustees and stakeholders.
• Support funding applications and funder reports as needed.
• Oversee bookkeeping, payroll, A/R and A/P.
• Responsible for one staff member.

An excellent opportunity has arisen for a part time Financial Controller to work for this exciting charity on the outskirts of Durham. Your duties will be as follows:

• Overseeing day to day accounting for the charity
• Preparing monthly management accounts, annual budgets, and financial forecasts
• Submission of financial reports and statutory filings in compliance with charity regulations
• Providing financial analysis to support decision-making for the senior management team
• Working closely with department heads to develop financial strategies, control costs,
• and optimising revenue streams
• Monitoring and managing cash flow and ensuring availability of funds for operational needs
• Responsible for overseeing billing and collections processes
• Liaising with external auditors and ensuring smooth execution of annual audits
• Ensuring compliance with financial regulations, including charity-specific requirements
• Leading the preparation of annual budgets, ensuring alignment with the charity goals
• Providing variance analysis and budget forecasts to the leadership team
• Delivering monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for management, trustees,
• and stakeholders
• Supporting funding applications and reports to external funders as needed
• Overseeing bookkeeping, payroll, accounts receivable and accounts payable
• Responsible for one member of staff

You will be a qualified Accountant or will be qualified by experience and you will have worked in a senior finance role previously. Experience of working with charities or non-profit organisations would be preferential, along with a good knowledge of VAT for complex organisations.
