Part-Time Finance Manager (2 Days per week)

2 days per week | Finance Manager in York, North Yorkshire

Are you a qualified finance professional looking for a challenging part-time position, working 2 days per week in a picturesque North Yorkshire rural location, where you'll make a real impact, while enjoying flexible, part-time working hours? Hays Senior Finance are partnering exclusively with a privately-owned organisation in North Yorkshire to appoint their next Finance Manager, due to pending retirement. The business has been in the same family for nearly half a millennium. They are well known for their commitment to conservation and heritage, in addition to their pride in farming and forestry.

About the role:

This is a fantastic opportunity, with a mixture of higher-level business planning, projects, monthly accounts and liaising with advisors, along with day-to-day activities around cash management and the various ledgers. The newly appointed Finance Manager will play a pivotal role in managing the financial operations and supporting ongoing projects, including:

  • Management Accounts & Reporting: Prepares monthly management accounts across ownerships and departments, reconciling control accounts, and presenting reports at meetings.
  • Annual Budgets & Business Planning: Lead the preparation of annual budgets and business plans to ensure financial stability.
  • Year-End Accounts: Collaborate and finalize year-end accounts and present findings at the annual Advisors meeting.
  • Project Contribution: Provide financial insights and support for projects and new ventures.
  • Sales & Purchase Ledgers: Manage invoicing, credit control, aged creditors reports, and contract oversight for IT, energy, and telecommunications.
  • Cash Flow & Banking: Prepare cash flow forecasts, ensure sufficient facilities are in place, and maintain a strong relationship with NatWest Bank Manager.
  • Salaries & Wages: Oversee payroll processing and manage pension contributions.
  • VAT Returns: Handle VAT preparation and submission for multiple ownerships.
  • Systems & IT: Recommend and maintain systems and policies to ensure effective financial controls and updated software.
Requirements:
  • Qualified through CIMA, ACCA or ACA, with a wealth of practical experience in strategic finance.
  • Proven expertise in managing finances across complex ownerships and systems, including Sage 50 Accounts and good working knowledge of MS Excel.
  • Ability to prepare and present detailed reports, budgets, and forecasts.
  • A strategic mindset with the capability to contribute to key development projects.
  • Detail-oriented and adaptable, with strong organisational skills.
  • The right to work in the UK without expiry and UK experience is essential.
