Love the numbers? Ready to make them count?

Love the numbers? Ready to make them count?

Are you a qualified accountant who loves getting into the detail but can also see the bigger picture? Someone who can balance the books, challenge the numbers and help a business make smarter decisions? We’re looking for a commercially minded Finance Manager to take ownership of our finance function and help shape what comes next at Murrayshall.

A business with plenty going on

Set in 365 acres of Perthshire countryside, just three miles from Perth, Murrayshall is much more than a hotel. We have rooms and suites, restaurants, golf, spa treatment facilities, 22 accommodation pods and an exciting range of outdoor pursuits, from quad biking and archery to axe throwing.

With continued investment and new opportunities on the horizon, there’s plenty happening across the estate. We need someone who can keep a close eye on financial performance, work out what the numbers are telling us and help turn that insight into action.

The role: your numbers, your influence

Reporting directly to the General Manager, you’ll take the lead on our finance function and work closely with our Heads of Department and owners This is a hands on role combining the detail of day to day financial management with the commercial thinking.

You won’t simply be producing reports and filing them away. You’ll help people understand what’s happening financially, where we’re performing well, where we need to do better and what we can do about it.

What you’ll be getting stuck into
Owning the finances
  • Prepare accurate monthly management accounts, including profit and loss accounts, balance sheets and cash flow statements.
  • Manage the month end close process, ensuring reporting is accurate, timely and meaningful.
  • Maintain and reconcile balance sheet accounts, oversee bank reconciliations and monitor daily revenue reports.
  • Manage the fixed asset register and maintain robust financial controls across the estate.
  • Produce clear financial and operational performance reports to support management decisions.
Planning ahead and spotting opportunities
  • Lead the preparation of annual operating budgets and capital expenditure budgets.
  • Prepare regular forecasts, comparing actual performance against budget and highlighting risks, trends and opportunities.
  • Manage cash flow forecasting and ensure the business has the liquidity it needs to operate effectively and fund planned investment.
  • Support longer-term financial planning, helping the leadership team understand the financial implications of business decisions.
  • Keep a close eye on costs, margins and financial performance, identifying opportunities to improve profitability and efficiency.
Being a business partner, not just a number cruncher
  • Work alongside Heads of Department to review revenue, expenditure and performance against budget.
  • Develop departmental financial scorecards and reporting tools that make the numbers easier to understand and act on.
  • Provide constructive financial challenge and guidance to help managers make commercially sound decisions.
  • Help operational teams understand the financial impact of their decisions, from managing labour costs to controlling expenditure and maximising revenue.
  • Turn financial information into practical recommendations that improve performance across the estate.
Keeping everything in good order
  • Ensure statutory reporting and tax obligations are completed accurately and on time.
  • Support annual tax returns and other financial compliance requirements.
  • Coordinate the annual external audit process and liaise with auditors as required.
  • Maintain appropriate financial policies, procedures and internal controls.
  • Identify opportunities to improve financial systems, streamline processes and make reporting more efficient.
Helping shape the future of Murrayshall

  • Prepare financial analysis and reports for ownership meetings and board reporting.
  • Evaluate the financial implications of proposed developments and operational changes.
  • Bring ideas, insight and a commercial perspective to discussions about the future of the estate.
Over to you

First things first, you’ll be a fully qualified accountant (CA, ACA, ACCA or CIMA), with experience in a Finance Manager or similar senior finance role.

You’ll have a strong grounding in management accounts, budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management and financial controls, alongside advanced Microsoft Excel skills and experience using accounting software and financial systems.

You’ll also bring:

  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills, with the ability to get to the bottom of the numbers.
  • A sharp eye for detail and a commitment to accuracy.
  • Strong commercial awareness and the confidence to challenge assumptions when the figures don’t stack up.
  • The ability to explain financial information clearly to people who don’t work in finance.
  • A collaborative approach and the confidence to build effective relationships across all levels of the business.
  • The initiative to work independently, manage competing priorities and get things done.
  • A continuous improvement mindset, always looking for ways to strengthen controls, improve processes and make better use of financial information.

Experience in hospitality, leisure, tourism or another multi department operational business is essential. You’ll understand that behind every set of figures are people, guests, operational decisions and commercial opportunities.

What’s in it for you?
  • £32,000 per year for 32 hours per week (£40,000 full-time equivalent)+ share of Tips
  • Flexible working pattern, with your hours spread over four or five days.
  • A permanent role with real responsibility and the opportunity to influence business performance.
  • A place at the table, working directly with the General Manager and senior leadership team.
  • A varied working environment, with a finance function that touches every part of the estate.
  • A supportive management team, staff benefits and employee discounts.
  • The chance to make a difference, improving financial processes and helping shape the next stage of Murrayshall’s development.
Ready to make the numbers count?

If you’re a qualified finance professional who enjoys getting into the detail, thinking commercially and working with people to make a business better, we’d love to hear from you.

Bring your financial expertise, your curiosity and your ideas. Help us make informed decisions, spot opportunities and keep Murrayshall moving in the right direction.

Escape the ordinary and leave behind the stress. It’s time for your retreat, an unparalleled experience where you can feel invigorated and energised.
