Job Opportunity: Finance Director / Head of Finance (Part-Time, Temporary)

We are seeking a qualified and experienced Finance professional for a temporary, part-time role based in Reading, working with an esteemed charity.

About Our Client

Our client is a reputable not-for-profit organization in Reading, dedicated to serving the local community with a small, collaborative team.

Job Description

This is a part-time, office-based role, requiring presence three days per week.

  1. Management Responsibilities:
    • Manage two staff members.
    • Oversee Finance, Marketing, and Health & Safety functions.
    • Contribute to strategic development, including business planning and budgeting.
    • Collaborate with Governance Trustee to ensure compliance with legislation.
    • Maintain Risk Register in partnership with Governance Trustee.
  2. Financial Control:
    • Oversee finance operations and governance.
    • Maintain financial controls and implement best practices, including periodic reporting on controls and risk assessments.
    • Responsible for quarterly income reports and annual report and accounts.
    • Manage endowment income checks and grant compliance.
    • Work with the CEO on fund development and recurring income.
    • Produce monthly dashboards for the CEO.
    • Ensure GDPR compliance and oversee payroll.
    • Review legislative changes affecting finance.
    • Lead quarterly committee meetings.
    • Ensure financial assessments are completed for each grant application.
Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will be a fully qualified accountant (ACA, CIMA, ACCA) with experience in the not-for-profit sector, proven leadership in finance roles, and a hands-on approach. Living near Reading is preferred, with parking available.

What We Offer
  • Pro-rata salary of £60,000
  • Part-time, three days per week, office-based with some remote work
  • Temporary contract initially for three months, with potential extension to six months or a temp-to-perm opportunity
