Job description

This part-time teaching position is responsible for teaching in Construction Technology, Associate of Applied Science Degree program. The part-time faculty member is a member of the professional teaching staff that is responsible for effectively implementing the mission of NWACC Workforce Technology Building Sciences Academic Area. The ideal candidate will possess the ability to relate well to a diverse population of students. Responsibilities may include teaching nights, weekends, and/or online instruction.
  • Prepare and deliver instruction to students.
  • Effectively employ a range of suitable strategies to foster student learning.
  • Stimulate class discussions and encourage active learning in all students.
  • Maintain proper class-related records.
  • Contacts students outside the classroom due to student absence to relay information related to class work and assignments.

  • Maintains current knowledge in the field, vocation or profession.
  • Promptly assess student coursework and apprise students of progress.
  • Demonstrate an interest in using current and emerging technologies in the classroom and/or in online teaching.

Curriculum:

  • Support the academic area and College through other work normally expected of adjunct faculty members.

Rate of pay: $765 per credit hour

Required Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years in the construction industry at a supervisory level.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in related field or ability to obtain by position start date.
  • Teaching experience in the function, use, installation, operation, performance, maintenance, and safety associated with tools and techniques in the Construction Industry with an emphasis on Construction Materials, Carpentry skills, Estimating, Scheduling, Construction Codes, and other areas.
  • NCCER instructor certification or the ability to obtain by position start date may be required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Experience with leadership at a community college or educational institution is a plus. Demonstrated teaching ability is the top priority. Ability to use an on-line platform. On-line delivery of instruction, use of technology for instruction, and experience or interest in project based, service learning, or inquiry based learning will be given special consideration. Knowledge of good laboratory procedures, governmental safety regulations regarding construction is desirable.
