Overview and Responsibilities

Part-Time English Teacher – Aurora Beeches

Location: Cranborne, Dorset

Salary: £, - £,. (M1-UPS3) actual annual salary

Hours: part-time, 4 days per week

At Aurora Beeches in Cranborne, we believe in giving young people, ages -, the tools and opportunities to create the lives they want for themselves. With high-quality teaching, an excellent level of individual support and a range of expert-led, integrated therapy, we support all our young people with a range of needs including Autism and other associated conditions. We can take advantage of our beautiful setting to inspire and create fun experiences to enhance learning and progress.

The main purpose of the role:

As our English Teacher, you will deliver high quality teaching and learning to young people aged - with social and emotional difficulties, anxiety disorders and mental health needs. The focus is on increasing academic and vocational qualifications and knowledge, whilst achieving independent living skills that will equip young people for the next stage in their lives, be that further education, training or work. Our students may present with challenging behaviours.

Key duties:

  1. Contribute to the delivery and development of the curriculum, having regard to the educational, physical and social needs of the pupils within a learning environment.
  2. Work collaboratively with other members of staff as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  3. Maintain and use short-, medium- and long-term plans in delivering the curriculum.
  4. Set, monitor and review personalised targets that will optimise learning for each individual.
  5. Contribute to the review of Statements and EHC plans, PEP and LAC reviews.
  6. Provide clear structures for lessons maintaining pace, motivation and challenge.
  7. Assist in the development of the curriculum offer. To maintain an overall awareness of current issues in the field of autism in order to be able to plan for effective teaching and learning.
  8. Manage a delegated budget as required.

Skills and Qualifications

Successful candidate qualities:

  1. Essential: PGCE, QTS, QTLS teaching qualification and evidence of in-service training.
  2. To be able to teach from Entry level 2 & 3, Functional Skills Level 1 & 2 and GCSEs in English
  3. Desirable: Experience of working in a school environment, ideally in specialist education.
  4. Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  5. Good teaching and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  6. Effective skills in planning, preparation, recording and reviewing pupils’ progress.
  7. Good IT skills and understanding of how IT can be used to support learning.
  8. Ability to remain calm and reflective when working in a challenging environment.
  9. Proven ability to work on own initiative, be well organised, prioritise effectively and achieve results against deadlines.
  10. Ability to engage pupils in positive enabling relationships
