Job Description: Donation Attendant

Introduction: The Salvation Army, an international evangelical Christian movement, is committed to preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ and meeting human needs without discrimination, motivated by the love of God.

Job Objective: Provide excellent customer service to donors, maintain a clean and organized donation area, and handle transactions accurately.

Essential Functions:
  1. Present a professional appearance consistent with the dress code.
  2. Greet donors warmly and offer assistance.
  3. Maintain cleanliness and organization of the donation area.
  4. Manage operations and security during shifts.
  5. Receive donations, issue receipts, and collect contact information from donors.
  6. Safeguard donated materials and equipment.
  7. Track donations according to center policy.
  8. Inform donors about unacceptable materials and arrange for heavy item pick-up when applicable.
  9. Sort donations as needed, including power sorting.
  10. Report any complaints, damages, or injuries occurring in the donation area.
  11. Assist with loading and unloading trucks per policy.
  12. Support production processes as required.
  13. Maintain flexibility to work varying schedules, including weekends and evenings.
Minimum Qualifications:

Education: High School Diploma or current pursuit thereof.

Skills/Abilities:

  • Effective communication skills in English (spoken and written).
  • Basic computer skills and ability to learn new systems.
  • Ability to understand and follow instructions.
  • Problem-solving skills involving multiple variables.
  • Basic math skills.
  • Ability to pass pre-employment drug and background tests.
Physical Requirements:

Must be able to stand, handle objects, hear, and talk regularly. Frequently walk and reach with hands and arms. Occasionally climb, balance, stoop, kneel, or crouch. Must regularly lift/move up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 100 pounds. Vision abilities include close, distance, and focus adjustment.

Travel & Working Conditions:

Occasional travel to other locations or for training. Work environment includes store settings with potential dust and temperature fluctuations. May require standing for long periods and exposure to outdoor weather. Full-time/Part-time roles with weekend and evening hours.
