Job description

Our client is a non-profit organisation working with people to support their health and wellbeing. Established for over 30 years, they have provided services alongside a variety of statutory, voluntary, community, and social enterprise (VCSE) colleagues in Surrey and its borders. They believe change is achievable when offered by a flexible, respectful, inclusive, and non-judgemental approach.

They are currently looking for a Part Time Counselling Practitioner to work within the Counselling team.

Salary: GBP27,000 - GBP28,000 pro rata per annum, dependent on experience

Hours: 10 hours a week

Duration: FTC until 31st December 2025

Location: Hybrid / Woking

In this role, you will be responsible for the triage / initial assessment stage, engaging with potential service users, exploring their history in sufficient detail to accurately assess without re-traumatisation, verifying their suitability for counselling within the service, and assessing client risk with appropriate action where necessary.

You will also support the Clinical Service Manager in overseeing the functions and operations of the service to ensure a robust and professional counselling service, as well as providing support to the team during peak times.

Part of your duties will include supporting volunteer counsellors regarding the functions of providing the counselling service, including adherence to policies and procedures aligned with BCAP standards.

This post is subject to a DBS check. Please note that past drug, alcohol, or criminal history will not necessarily disqualify you from undertaking this role.

Our ideal applicant will have/be:

  • Qualified Counsellor (minimum Level 4 diploma in counselling)
  • Minimum of 1 year post-qualification counselling experience
  • Experience working with clients presenting with mental health and/or drug/alcohol concerns
  • Experience in taking referrals and conducting triage and assessment for counselling
  • Proactive, motivated, and energetic
  • Ability to work calmly in challenging environments
