This is an expanding area of the School programme, presenting our team with many opportunities to work in a variety of wide-ranging tasks.

There are no prerequisite requirements for this job. We are looking for the right person to fit with our team dynamic. The successful candidate will be expected to complete a National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ) if they don’t already hold one, as well as have good customer service and teamwork skills. The School will pay for any training required to fulfill this role's functions, and once qualified, the School provides ongoing professional training for Lifeguards as required by the Royal Life Saving Society.

We are recruiting for two 26 hours per week term-time only (34 weeks a year) part-time roles working on a bi-weekly shift pattern and alternate weekends to start in September 2025. During our busy term-time programme, we require lifeguards to be on shift across the following periods:

  1. Mondays 3.15pm – 7.30pm
  2. Tuesday 5.00pm – 7.00pm
  3. Thursdays 4.30pm – 9.30pm
  4. Fridays 3.15pm – 7.00pm
  5. Saturdays 7.30am – 4.30pm
  6. Sundays 8.00am – 8.30pm

Additionally, we have a growing holiday programme which provides further opportunities for work over the holiday periods and an opportunity to earn extra money!

Salary for the part-time roles is £10,513 per annum. We are also actively recruiting for lifeguards on a casual basis to work alongside the part-time roles in the shifts detailed above with an immediate start date. The hourly rate for the casual contract is £11.95 per hour.

St Hugh's is a highly regarded co-educational day and boarding prep school with 350 pupils between the ages of 3 and 13 years. We are situated on a beautiful green campus of 40 acres in the South Oxfordshire countryside, only 25 minutes from Central Oxford.

To apply for this position, please complete and return the fully completed application form to recruitment@st-hughs.co.uk. This should include a supporting statement outlining the extent to which you meet our requirements as set out in the job description and details of two referees, one of which should be a current or most recent employer. References and online social media checks will be carried out on shortlisted candidates prior to interview as part of KCSIE guidance.

Shortlisted candidates will be invited for interview and will be subject to the full safer recruitment process. Applications will be considered on receipt. We reserve the right to interview at any point during the recruitment process, so early applications are encouraged. Successful applicants will be required to pass a Lifeguard Competency Test before any final decisions are made.

The School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, and all appointments are subject to a satisfactory enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check (including a check against the Children’s Barred List), and other pre-employment screening including a check on the Secretary of State list of prohibited staff.
