Job summary

MUSC Health Elgin Urgent Care in Elgin, SC, seeks a part-time Advanced Practice Provider to join a busy urgent care team working alongside physicians and other APPs. The APP must deliver compassionate, high-volume care and be eligible for licensure as a PA or APRN.

Ideal candidates have 1 year of APP experience in urgent or primary care, hold BLS/ACLS, and are willing to obtain DOT certification if needed. This 30-hour week position offers strong patient care opportunities in a dynamic clinic.

Qualifications

• Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program and currently licensed or eligible for licensure as a PA or completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program and currently licensed or eligible for licensure as an APRN.
• Minimum of 1 year experience as an APP in urgent care, primary care, or emergency medicine.
• BLS and ACLS certifications required.

Responsibilities

• Takes comprehensive history and performs physical examinations
• Evaluates and treats based on history, exam, tests and guidelines
• Willingness to obtain DOT certification to conduct DOT physicals
• Performs procedures such as local anesthesia, wound care, suturing and basic splinting
• Involves referrals and collaboration with supervising physician and care team
• Maintains documentation and participates in quality improvement activities

Elgin Urgent Care Medical Pavilion provides 24/7 access to immediate medical care for non‑emergent conditions. The center focuses on delivering prompt and convenient treatment for urgent but non‑emergency health issues.

Required Qualifications

• Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program and currently licensed or eligible for licensure as a Physician Assistant or completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program and currently licensed or eligible for licensure as an APRN as noted below.

Position Highlights

• 24-30 hours per week

Provides Direct Care To Patients Through The Following Activities

• Takes comprehensive history and performs physical examinations
• Evaluates and treats on the basis of history, physical examination, radiological, laboratory, and other diagnostic test results pursuant to the practice agreement or scope of practice guideline
• Willingness to obtain DOT certification to conduct DOT physicals
• Performs the following therapeutic procedures in accordance with procedural privileges, skill and proficiency upon hire as approved by the Primary Supervising Physician:
• Administer local anesthesia
• Incision and Drainage
• Suturing lacerations
• Basic splinting
• Wound care
• Cerumen Disimpaction
• Foreign body extractions
• Non‑surgical epistaxis management
• Pelvic exam
• Insertion of IVs for fluids/Starting Fluids for dehydration
• Basic EKG Interpretation with Physician over‑read
• Initiates referrals to other healthcare providers, and/or consults with the attending physician or the collaborating physician
• Documents and bills for direct care provided
• Utilizes current research and evidence‑based decision‑making in all clinical practice
• Performs and participates in quality/performance improvement activities and clinical research
• Participates in and supports accreditation, compliance, and regulatory activities of the organization
• Demonstrates responsibility for professional practice through active participation in professional organizations and continuing education
• Potential to precept students at MUSC enrolled as an advanced practice provider student; and facilitates the learning of other new team members
• APRN or PA must maintain licenses, certifications, CNEs/CMEs, etc. as required by applicable policies and state law
