A local government body in Aberdeen is seeking a Park Ranger to lead the Park Ranger Service. The role includes managing park regulations, ensuring safety for visitors, and engaging the community through educational opportunities. Duration : Fixed term 1 year
Full time - 35 hours per week
Location: Based at Duthie Park - can work across different locations as required.
Roles that require PVG Membership
Please note that with effect from 1 April 2023, where a role requires PVG membership, candidates will be required to meet the cost of the PVG membership. This applies only to roles with a full time equivalent salary of £30,000 and above. (Teaching roles and jobs at Grade 11 and above (currently £30,285 per annum / £16.64 per hour)
The Council will pay for the PVG membership cost initially, either £18 for existing PVG scheme members, or £59 for non-members, and this cost will be deducted from an employee's first FULL month's salary payment.
Job Purpose:
The postholder will work as the lead of the Park Ranger Service in delivering a comprehensive service inall AberdeenParks, to conserve, enhance and promote the appropriate use of the park by members of the public and other interest groups. The post holder needs to hold as a minimum:
Recognised further education qualification in Countryside Management, Rural Studies, Amenity Horticulture, Landscape Management or equivalent subject to National Certificate or equivalent qualification level
The post holder will be expected to:
Undertake a PVG check
Work on a Flexi-time basis to include occasional weekends
Enforce park by-laws
Assist with ad-hoc maintenance such as litter picking
Assist with the day to day management of the Ranger Station and resources contained within it, ensuring they are clean, hygienic and fully serviceable
The post holder is expected to demonstrate:
Ability to communicate with a wide range of people including school children
Ability to work with minimum supervision on routine and project based work
Ability to work alone or as part of a team
Ability to work with members of the community of all ages, both with individuals and groups
Ability to lead guided walks
