Job summary

A local equine training center in Elmstone Hardwicke is seeking an apprentice for general yard duties including grooming, tacking up, and exercising ponies. Full training will be provided on-site, and apprentices will also work towards BHS teaching qualifications. Candidates must be able to ride ponies and not hold qualifications in Equine Studies at Level 2 or above. Functional Skills support offered if needed.

Qualifications

• Must not hold a qualification in Equine Studies at Level 2 or above.
• Support for gaining Functional Skills in maths and/or English.

Responsibilities

• Mucking out and keeping the yard clean and tidy.
• Grooming and tacking up ponies.
• Exercising ponies and small horses.

Skills

Able to ride ponies and small horses under 15.2hh

Willing to pursue BHS teaching Qualifications

Job description

All general yard duties to include:

• Mucking out/ keeping yard clean and tidy
• Grooming / picking out feet
• Tacking up
• Feeding/ filling haynets
• Filling water containers
• Exercising ponies and small horses
• Training through the BHS stages to teach children to ride

Training

All training will be provided on site during your paid working hours. Your day to day mentoring will be with your employer, and a combination of online and in person monthly sessions will be held with your Haddon Training Trainer Coach.

Skills required

• Be able to ride ponies and small horses under 15.2hh
• Be willing to do BHS teaching Qualifications alongside apprenticeship

Note: You must not already hold a qualification in Equine Studies at Level 2 or above, as this will make you ineligible for the apprenticeship. If you do not already have qualifications in maths and/ or English, Haddon Training will support you in gaining Functional Skills qualifications at level 1 or 2.
