Parental Substance Misuse Specialist Social Worker - Wandsworth
Up to 51,127 per annum Permanent Full-Time (36 Hours)

Are you passionate about supporting families and making a real difference in the lives of children affected by parental substance misuse?

Wandsworth Children's Services is seeking a Parental Substance Misuse Specialist Social Worker to join their committed multi-disciplinary team. You'll play a key role in improving outcomes for vulnerable children by providing expert guidance, training and direct support to families where substance misuse is a factor.



About the Role:

As a Specialist Social Worker, you'll deliver high-quality consultation, training, and support on the impact of parental substance misuse. Working closely with children's social care professionals and key partners, your input will strengthen safeguarding practice and help families work toward recovery and stability.

You will:

  • Provide expert advice and guidance on the effects of parental substance misuse on children.

  • Deliver impactful training to social workers and partner agencies.

  • Collaborate with professionals in mental health, domestic abuse, and child exploitation to ensure coordinated and effective interventions.

  • Participate in multi-agency child protection meetings and help shape safety plans.

  • Stay up-to-date with current legislation, research, and best practices in substance misuse.



About You:

To succeed in this role, you will need:

  • A recognised Social Work qualification and registration with Social Work England.

  • In-depth experience supporting families affected by substance misuse, ideally within child protection.

  • Excellent knowledge of substance misuse patterns, parenting impact, and intervention models.

  • Strong assessment skills to understand risk, parenting capacity and readiness for change.

  • The ability to train, influence and collaborate effectively with a range of professionals.
