Your new company
This is a newly created role for a growing engineering and architecture organisation. They are looking for someone to join their small legal team and assist with the increased legal work, as a result of their growth. The ideal candidate will have a background in the architecture, engineering, or construction industry, with experience as a contracts manager, paralegal or senior legal assistant. In this role, you will support contract review, legal drafting, risk mitigation, and legal research, helping to strengthen the company's legal operations.
Your new role
You will play a key role in supporting the In-House Counsel by ensuring the smooth execution of contracts across the company. Your responsibilities will include reviewing agreements to assess their commercial, legal, and insurance implications, helping to mitigate risks, and safeguarding future projects. This position offers an excellent opportunity for a legally skilled professional to thrive within a prestigious architecture, engineering, and design practice, combining legal expertise with a creative and dynamic work environment. You will review contracts, including professional service agreements, NDAs, and warranties, identifying risks and recommending amendments. You will draft legal documents, provide contract guidance to internal teams, and ensure compliance in supply chain appointments. Your role includes maintaining contractual documentation, managing templates, tracking progress, and conducting legal research to stay updated on developments. Additionally, you will foster collaboration and promote best practices in contract and compliance processes across the company.
What you'll need to succeed
The ideal candidate will have an LLB qualification, with LPC/SQE or Contract Management certification as a plus. You must have at least three years of experience in legal support, or in-house legal roles within architecture, engineering, construction, or professional services (excluding private practice law firms). This role does not provide a solicitor's training contract or QWE, for full transparency. You will have strong contract review and drafting skills, knowledge of contract law, and excellent communication abilities are essential. Candidates should be detail-oriented, proficient in Microsoft Office and Adobe/PDF, and able to convey complex legal concepts clearly. NEC3/NEC4 PSC knowledge is desirable. The role requires effective time management, organisation, and a collaborative, professional approach.
