We're a national law firm with a local reach. Our philosophy is 'we're legal and financial experts that care' — something you'll find in the way we work with our clients and how we support our teams. But we're more than just a law firm — we're a team of people working together to help individuals and businesses navigate life's ups and downs. Working here, you'll feel part of our friendly and inclusive environment.

We'll value you for who you are and what you bring. We support each other and push boundaries to achieve incredible things and make a real difference to our clients and communities.

We're always looking to support our colleagues to work in a way that works best for them and everyone else, including our clients, the business, and the regulators. Please speak to a member of our Recruitment and Onboarding team for more information.

Our Team

Our team handles occupational disease claims, including a significant number of asbestos-related disease claims, primarily mesothelioma. We manage a high proportion of litigated cases, many of which are expedited in the High Court. At Irwin Mitchell, our Asbestos & Occupational Disease team goes beyond compensation claims; we work closely with our clients and their families to ensure all their support needs are met. This bespoke approach truly makes a difference to those impacted by occupational illnesses.

Your Role and What You'll Be Doing

You don't always need a law degree to work as a Paralegal at Irwin Mitchell. In our team, we value great team players eager to learn quickly. You'll support Solicitors with their caseloads from the start, gaining real, hands-on experience in a law firm.

Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Taking instructions from clients and assisting with legal advice, including gathering evidence and assisting with litigation to achieve appropriate resolutions.
  • Achieving time recording and fee income targets to ensure profitability.
  • Attending and contributing to team and practice area meetings, complying with directions and decisions to meet team objectives.
  • Keeping up to date with relevant legal changes and attending training to maintain current knowledge and best practices.

About You

  • A Law Degree (or equivalent)
  • Excellent client care and interpersonal skills, operating with integrity, empathy, and intuition to support clients through challenging circumstances.
  • Ambition and enthusiasm for Personal Injury Law.
  • A friendly, enthusiastic, can-do attitude.
  • Enthusiasm to build a career as a Paralegal, whether you have previous experience or not.

Our Benefits — What We Can Offer You

  • 25 days holidays plus bank holidays — you can 'buy' up to 35 hours of extra holiday.
  • Generous and flexible pension schemes.
  • Volunteering days — two paid days annually for a cause of your choice.
  • Westfield Health membership, offering refunds on medical services and access to digital GP services.

We support well-being initiatives to encourage positive mental health, including our Flexible by Choice programme for hybrid working, subject to role and client needs.

We have been ranked in the Best Workplaces for Wellbeing for Large Organisations 2024!

Our responsible business programmes focus on diversity and inclusion, community investment, climate action, and social responsibility, encompassing Our People, Our Community, Our Environment, and Our Pro Bono activities.

Additional Information

As part of our onboarding, all successful applicants will undergo employment screening to verify honesty, integrity, eligibility to work in the UK, criminal records, and financial checks, in compliance with data protection laws.

Irwin Mitchell LLP is an equal opportunity employer.
