Job description

Potter Clarkson is currently recruiting for a talented and ambitious Paralegal to join the Nottingham office of our market-leading cross-office team, which currently comprises 20 IP Lawyers, and support staff.

We are one of the largest full-service intellectual property practices in Europe. We have offices in the UK and continental Europe with over 100 patent, trade mark and IP professionals and around 100 paralegals and support staff working together across our 8 offices.

Our IP solicitors work alongside our attorneys, forming multi-disciplinary teams to provide an holistic suite of commercial solutions for our national and international client base. Award winning, the firm is consistently ranked in the top tier of all major legal guides, including Legal 500 and MIP. Unlike most UK patent and trade mark firms, we also hold three independent ISO accreditations illustrating our high level of service provision, information security and environmental awareness. Potter Clarkson acts for many leading household names as well as SMEs and universities.

The formula for our success is simple. We recruit the very best people and invest heavily in their training and personal development to produce outstanding IP professionals. The organisation and infrastructure of the firm and its dedicated support staff equip our experts with all they need to apply their skills efficiently and deliver exceptional service to clients.

We offer a fun, friendly and collegiate work environment, and the opportunity to be involved in interesting and complex IP work for blue chip clients.

The Role

  • Support work on IP litigation (including trial prep, bundling and case administration and management) & IP transactions (such as licensing, assignments and franchising);
  • Support work on other contractual and strategic advice, and on audits;
  • Advice on structuring IP ownership;
  • Collaboration agreements (both academic and private sector) and joint ventures;
  • Support for broader transactions and due diligence;
  • Business development support, and in particular development of key sectors;
  • Research and writing academic articles.

Requirements

  • Must have a "can do" attitude and be a first-class communicator;
  • Must be able to work in an independent and a self-directed manner, but also as part of a team;
  • A meticulous eye for detail;
  • A scientific background would be advantageous, as would experience of working in a professional services environment;
  • Previous paralegal experience, particularly in contentious matters would be desirable;
  • Exceptional academics.

Benefits

  • We offer a flexible working policy, with employees expected to be in the office two days per week. Initially, the successful candidate will need to work in the office full-time to facilitate their training and integration into the company.
  • Salary is competitive and negotiable depending on your level of experience.
  • Potential opportunity to progress to Training Contract within a few years, leading to solicitor qualification, if successful.
  • Enhanced parental leave.
  • Birthday leave.
  • Salary sacrifice pension scheme.
  • One paid day off per year for charitable work.
  • Discretionary annual bonus.
  • Electric car schemes.
