Our Catastrophic Personal Injury team at DWF, Manchester are currently hiring for a Paralegal. The Catastrophic Injury team is one of the largest in the UK and is recognised nationally. Our 30+ strong Manchester team acts for household name insurer clients on high value, complex personal injury claims. The team's expertise covers Road Traffic Accidents (RTA) and Employers Liability (EL) / Public Liability (PL) matters although expertise in all of those sub-specialisms is not necessarily a pre-requisite for the role.


Responsibilities

  • To action cases in line with the department's and client's service standards and protocols.
  • To act as a trusted member within the team, taking responsibility and ensuring the case management system is kept up to date with court orders, and liaising with clients.
  • Conduct thorough investigations into liability and damages, gathering evidence, interviewing witnesses, and liaising with experts.
  • Progression of cases to a satisfactory and speedy settlement per the client's requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements, internal policies, and best practices, maintaining confidentiality and data protection standards at all times.

What will help you succeed in this role?

Essential

  • Basic to intermediate IT and keyboard skills with knowledge of Word, Excel and database programmes such as Lexis Library, Lawtel, Westlaw and Practical Law for carrying out legal research.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Flexibility, willingness to learn on the job and to participate in learning and development opportunities.
  • Attention to detail.
  • A law degree.

Desirable

  • 12 – 18 months previous experience in a legal environment.
  • Previous experience assisting in the running of a litigated major injury/large loss case load preferably RTA/EL/PL.

What we offer?

  • Our team has a proven history of developing staff, having successfully supported paralegals and apprentices to qualify within our team as solicitors and chartered legal executives.
  • The role is hybrid office-based, with the expectation that you will work in the Manchester office at least two days per week or as required.
  • The role will involve working in a team environment advising insurers and professionals in respect of claims made against a wide range of professionals (including but not limited to solicitors, accountants, financial advisers, construction professionals, insurance brokers, surveyors and technology/media professionals) and will embrace policy coverage advice, all forms of dispute resolution and assistance with disciplinary proceedings.
  • You will be fully supervised to support your ongoing development.
