We act for clients in a wide range of claims and specialise in complex and high value claims arising from birth injuries. This position offers an opportunity to learn from a very experienced team of specialist lawyers. We also offer hybrid/flexible working arrangements.

What you’ll be doing

Duties will include, liaising with clients, experts, barristers, insurers and other firms of solicitors, as well as answering enquiries where appropriate.

You will be responsible for opening, closing and archiving client files, using the firm’s IT systems and packages, liaising with clients and other parties on behalf of lawyers and dealing with emailed or telephone enquiries as appropriate.

You will be liaising with the accounts team to pay invoices, maintaining diaries, making appointments and arranging conferences when required. You will be maintaining your own legal knowledge/skills and putting them to best practice, as well as undertaking general administrative tasks.

You will be required to obtain and collate medical records, prepare chronologies and ensure that all files are organized and well maintained.

With experience, you will be given the opportunity to develop the role, across a wide range of complex medical negligence claims. This would involve reviewing expert reports, drafting witness statements and court pleadings, attending and shadowing at meetings and conferences with barristers and medical experts, as well as court hearings.

You will also be responsible for document production and case management and using external portals as well as maintaining spreadsheets.

You will be confident in communicating with our clients and, under our lawyers’ direction, will ensure that clients have the information they need if our lawyers are engaged elsewhere.

We are looking for somebody with strong organisation skills and good attention to detail.

What you’ll have

Three A-levels or equivalent and a degree are preferred but not essential. It would be an advantage if you have previous experience of working in a clinical negligence environment. You will have some previous legal work experience and evidence of a genuine interest in clinical negligence law.

You will be literate and numerate, have excellent communication and IT skills. You will be able to work on your own initiative, as well as under supervision, and will be happy to adapt to the requirements of the tasks facing you. Ideally you will be able to demonstrate your problem-solving skills and how you have used these in your previous positions.

An ability to work closely with the team is essential.
