Paralegal

Job Location: Bristol

Job Type: Permanent

Remuneration: Competitive salary taking into account skills, experience and qualifications

We have a fantastic opportunity for Paralegals to join our Bristol team.

Sedgwick Legal Services (SLS) advises and handles disputes for major insurers, Lloyds syndicates, large corporates, utilities, and local authorities. This role focuses on property damage losses, including those caused by major fires, floods, building collapse, escape of water, and subsidence. Our Legal team leads from our Central Bristol Office, with colleagues in Cardiff and London. The role requires a hybrid working model with three days per week in our Bristol office.

Main duties and responsibilities include updating and maintaining the case management system with diary dates as required by the case. You'll assist on claims for other fee earners in the team, carrying out preliminary investigations and evidence gathering, ensuring technical and expert evidence obtained by insurers and their agents is sufficient to prove causation, obtaining witness statements, and contacting relevant parties to obtain contractual and other relevant documentation.

You'll assist the Partners, Associates, and Team Leaders with complex litigated caseloads, assuming responsibility for client protocol compliance both on your own files and when working on task-based assignments for others. You'll create and develop systems and procedures to manage and allow the function of SLS within Sedgwick's digital systems, meeting and exceeding internal targets for time recording and billing.

This is perfect for being part of a market-leading and award-winning multinational company, shaping the offering of an ambitious challenger law firm, and committing to an engaging colleague environment that prioritises wellbeing, development, creative autonomy, and subject-matter excellence.

The skills you will have when you apply:

  • Professional Qualifications: Preferably have a degree or previous relevant legal experience.
  • Expertise: Knowledge of the litigation process is desirable.
  • Contract and Tort Knowledge: Be interested in and have a good working knowledge of general contract and tortious principles.
  • Insurance Law: Be interested in and willing to learn insurance-based property damage law.
  • Technical Knowledge: Be interested in and willing to learn the technical aspects of construction and property claims investigations as required for the role.
  • Team Orientation: Be team-orientated, with a willingness to share knowledge with and support other members of the team.
  • Commercial Perspective: Have an ability to adopt a commercial perspective rather than an 'academic' approach to claims settlement.

The skills that will be developed once working:
  • Comprehensive Training: You'll receive all the Sedgwick-specific training needed to excel in your role.

What we'll give you for this role:

Remuneration & more
  • Competitive salary taking into account skills, experience and qualifications
  • A Self Invested Personal Pension Scheme (SIPP)
  • You will join an appropriate incentive (bonus) scheme
  • Holiday allowance of 25 days plus bank holidays

Health & support
  • Private healthcare plan (including pre-existing conditions)
  • Life assurance
  • Employee assistance programme for employee wellbeing
  • Group Income Protection
