Job summary

Acorns Children’s Hospice in Black Country, Walsall is seeking an experienced Staff Nurse to provide comprehensive, evidence-based nursing care to children and young people with complex needs and life-limiting conditions. The role offers full-time or part-time hours, based at the Black Country Hospice in Walsall.

You will deliver end-of-life and symptom management, collaborate with families, and participate in a multidisciplinary team to tailor care to each child’s holistic needs.

Qualifications

  • Registered children’s nurse with nursing registration.
  • Palliative care experience with children and young people.
  • Experience with complex health needs in pediatric settings.
  • Willing to work 12.5-hour shifts including nights, across days.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver end-of-life and symptom management care to children and young people.
  • Use clinical skills for tracheostomy care, ventilation, oxygen therapy, suction, syringe drivers, enteral feeds, etc.
  • Undertake comprehensive assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of nursing care with families.
  • Empower children and families to participate in care decisions and exercise choice.

Job description

We have an exciting opportunity in our Black Country Hospice, Walsall for an experienced Nurse to join the team. You’ll use your expertise, compassion and clinical skills to provide comprehensive, evidence-based nursing care to children and young people who have a range of complex health needs and life limiting or life‑threatening conditions. Both full time and part time hours are available.

About The Role

At Acorns Children’s Hospice, we provide specialist palliative care for children, and young people with life-limiting and life‑threatening conditions, and we support their families through every step of their journey, and through transition. Our work is defined by compassion, expertise, and an unwavering belief that every child deserves comfort, dignity, and the chance to experience joy. Our Children’s Palliative Community Nurses are part of a supportive, multi-disciplinary team delivering care that is tailored to each child’s individual holistic needs.

As a Children’s Palliative Staff Nurse, You Will
  • Deliver evidence-based end of life and symptom management and after death care to children and young people
  • Use clinical skills including, but not limited to, caring for children who require long term ventilation, tracheostomy care, oxygen therapy, suction, syringe drivers and enteral feeds etc. These competencies will be developed and maintained through structured, competency-based training.
  • Undertake comprehensive assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care for children and young people with complex health needs, including life-limiting and life‑threatening conditions, while working in partnership with their families.
  • Empower children, young people and their relatives to make decisions about their care and to exercise choice
About You
  • Registered Children’s nurse
  • Demonstrable relevant experience in palliative care
  • Experience of working with children with complex health needs
  • Happy to work 12.5 hour shifts, Monday to Sunday (including nights)

You need to be eligible to work in the UK to be considered for this role. In addition, candidates will be asked to provide evidence of immunisation against specific diseases or confirm their willingness to receive the necessary vaccinations.
