About The Role

What are we looking for?

We’re looking for a highly motivated, passionate Registered Nurse to support our Hospice at Home (H@H) Team at St. Michael’s Hospice. This is a bank role, offering flexible working hours without a fixed schedule. Bank roles are ideal for nurses who may want to work around other commitments, build on specialist experience, or simply enjoy the flexibility of choosing shifts as and when they’re available.

This is a specialist nursing role, providing compassionate, expert care to patients in the last weeks and days of their lives in their own homes. You will be a vital part of our efforts to ensure dignity, comfort, and quality of life for patients and their families at a profoundly important time.

This is an ideal opportunity for a nurse who wishes to specialise in palliative and end-of-life care, or who already has experience in this area. A passion for making a difference to our patients and their families, alongside a love of the nursing role, are key qualities we’re looking for in the successful candidate. Experience working in a community setting would be an advantage.

The successful candidate will be an NMC-registered nurse with excellent communication skills and empathy. You’ll work both independently and within a supportive multi-disciplinary team, proactively assessing patients’ needs, planning and delivering high-quality care, and advocating for the best possible outcomes.

You will need the confidence and clinical knowledge to make decisions, manage your workload effectively, and deliver care in line with St. Michael’s Hospice’s values and commitment to excellence.

This bank role includes long-day shifts, which may include day and night work, depending on service needs and your availability. A full UK driving license and access to a vehicle are essential, as you will be travelling across the community within the hospice’s catchment area.

The Role

Working collaboratively with the wider multi-disciplinary team, you’ll assess, plan, and provide holistic care that meets the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of patients. You’ll also play a key role in contributing to service improvement and promoting best practice in end-of-life care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver personalised palliative care and symptom management at home.
  • Support the SMH Living Well Service, including MND and long-term neurological conditions.
  • Maintain high standards of care, communication, and record-keeping.
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals, patients, families, and carers to ensure a seamless, compassionate service.

St. Michael’s Hospice is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of vulnerable adults, children and young people. All staff are expected to share this commitment. Successful candidates will be required to undergo relevant background checks, including a DBS check and provide satisfactory reference before starting the role.
