The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust is the main provider of district general hospital services for nearly half a million people in Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin, and mid Wales. Our main service locations are The Princess Royal Hospital in Telford and The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital in Shrewsbury, which together provide 99% of our activity. Both hospitals offer a wide range of acute hospital services including accident & emergency, outpatient services, diagnostics, inpatient medical care, and critical care. During 2012/13, the Princess Royal Hospital became our main specialist centre for inpatient head and neck surgery, and the main centre for inpatient Women and Children’s services after opening the Shropshire Women and Children’s Centre in September 2014. The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital became our main specialist centre for acute surgery with new facilities. The hospitals have just over 700 beds and assessment & treatment trolleys. Additionally, we provide community and outreach services such as outpatient clinics, midwife-led units, renal dialysis outreach, and community therapies.

Due to reduction in hours within our existing team, we are recruiting for an 18-hour per week position. Join our well-established and supportive team of Palliative Care nurses to deliver specialist palliative care. This role offers opportunities to develop your skills and knowledge in palliative care. Set working days can be considered, with weekend work on a rota basis. The post supports the palliative care service in line with CQC recommendations.
You will provide specialist support and advice for patients receiving palliative and end-of-life care, including triaging referrals, reviewing inpatient patients, and liaising with community and hospice colleagues. You need high-level clinical skills and experience in managing palliative and end-of-life care. Excellent communication skills are essential, especially for breaking bad news. The role involves working across both hospital sites, so the ability to travel is required.
