Job description

Painter and Decorator - Millom - Secure site - call for salary

We have a fantastic opportunity for a permanent Painter/Decorator to join our Ministry of Justice (MoJ) account in HMP Haverigg. This role is based on-site. You will need your own transport due to the remote location of this site, which is over an hour from Lancaster.

There will be a need to work 1 in 3 weekends, but this would be on a rota basis (with an additional allowance of 15% of basic salary).

The Painter/Decorator plays an important part in ensuring the planned and reactive maintenance work within the prisons is carried out in a safe, compliant, and timely manner.

The standard hours of work are 39 hours per week (across 7 days where a weekend shift pattern is in place).

You will be responsible for:

  1. Planned and reactive paint work in all areas of the prison.
  2. Responsibility for the care and maintenance of tools, materials, and additional company property.
  3. Ensuring H&S standards are achieved across the contract.

What makes this role unique is that you will ensure all works are carried out to the highest safety standards, sometimes working alongside and supervising the work of prisoners. Prison Security Clearance will be required (we will support you through this process).

We want to hear from you if you have:

  1. Must be a fully qualified Painter.
  2. Previous relevant work-related experience.
  3. Good awareness and understanding of personal health and safety, method statements, and risk assessments.
  4. Comfortable working alongside prisoners.
  5. Ideally, you will be qualified to NVQ level 3 in Painting and Decorating; however, we will consider applications if you have NVQ level 2.
