Job description

Salary: up to £32,000, depending on experience.

Hours: 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with possible evening and weekend work.

Location: Site based at HMP Peterborough.

Your Role as a Painter and Decorator

As a Painter and Decorator, you will be responsible for maintaining and improving the interior and exterior spaces at HMP Peterborough. Tasks include painting, wallpapering, and aesthetic enhancements as part of planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive works. You will also work on minor alteration and fabrication (MAF) projects across the prison estate.

You will manage work orders via our helpdesk system, ensuring timely and high-quality completion. Effective communication with clients, colleagues, and engineers is essential to coordinate and deliver work that meets safety and quality standards.

This hands-on role requires adherence to health and safety standards in a secure environment, supporting the daily operations and improvements of the prison facilities. Please refer to the attached job description for detailed responsibilities.

The Ideal Candidate

• Painting and decorating experience with NVQ, City & Guilds, or equivalent.
• Experience in the building services industry.
• Relevant licenses and training such as PASWA, IPAF.
• Excellent customer service and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Good awareness of health and safety standards.
• Experience working within a prison or secure environment.
• Knowledge of MAF and PPM processes.
