HMP Eastwood Park

HMP Eastwood Park is a Women’s Closed Category Prison, located in Falfield, South Gloucestershire. The prison is operated by His Majesty’s Prison Service.

Your new role

As a painter and decorator, you will ensure the site is maintained to the agreed standards through planned maintenance, refurbishment, and new works. You will work on painting and decorating staff and prisoner facilities, adhering to Health and Safety guidelines and security procedures to meet the site’s short-term and long-term goals.

Main duties include but are not limited to:

1. Undertaking planned maintenance, refurbishment, and new works, including painting and decorating staff and prisoner facilities.
2. Prioritising activities in line with local procedures.
3. Managing workload and escalating issues to the Site Manager when required.
4. Supervising prisoners during work and training activities.
5. Upholding prisoner discipline within the work area, including issuing behaviour warnings and logging incidents.
6. Performing quality control over prisoner work as per the Service Delivery Agreement (SDA).
7. Conducting survey inspections, including in confined spaces and at heights.
8. Recording all work and completing associated logs and registers.
9. Managing stock levels, requesting procurement, and ensuring materials are logged and fit for purpose.
10. Supervising technical contractors and working with them in accordance with the Local Security Strategy (LSS).
11. Maintaining communication via radio.
12. Complying with all Health and Safety policies, procedures, and legislation, including statutory and mandatory compliance.
13. Driving estate vehicles and operating plant equipment when required.
14. Carrying out locking duties as needed.
15. Performing urgent or emergency tasks as per the SDA in a safe manner.
16. Contributing to local practice development, ensuring consistency in policy and procedure application.
17. Managing tool inventory and maintaining security standards.
18. Promoting a culture of excellent customer service and building strong relationships with the client.
19. Ensuring compliance with health and safety legislation, including acting as Fire Warden and/or First Aider if required.
20. Tools and equipment are provided on-site.
21. Working hours are Monday to Friday, 39 hours per week, with pay rates to be confirmed.

Requirements

Applicants must hold a City and Guilds or NVQ Level 3 in Painting and Decorating or equivalent. Time-served candidates will also be considered. All candidates require satisfactory references and full prison clearance, which may take 6-8 weeks. A valid driver’s license and personal vehicle are required due to the site location.
