Job summary

E-PPL is seeking an experienced Paint Prep Technician to join our team in the UK. This role focuses on ensuring flawless substrates for painting on vehicle components, including plastic and fiberglass, with the precision expected by major OEMs.

The ideal candidate will have solid automotive bodywork experience, proficiency with hand and power tools, and a keen eye for detail to achieve OEM-level quality while meeting tight production schedules.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Vocational training in automotive body repair or painting is a significant advantage.
  • Solid experience in automotive bodywork, sanding, and surface prep is essential.

Responsibilities

  • Surface Preparation & Repair: inspect, clean, repair, sand, fill, and smooth surfaces for painting.
  • Finishing & Quality Control: apply primer, masking, and conduct quality checks before release to paint.
  • Maintenance & Safety: maintain clean, safe workspace and follow safety protocols.
  • Collaboration: work with team and supervisors to meet deadlines.

Job description

E-PPL is a leading specialist contractor providing fully managed, turn-key services to major Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) across the UK and overseas automotive industry. We are the specialists OEMs call on to support crucial vehicle projects. Our work is dynamic, ranging from carefully planned launch support and build phases to highly reactive quality campaigns addressing immediate production or market needs.

We are seeking an experienced and meticulous Paint Prep Technician to join our team. This hands-on role is critical to achieving the highest quality finish on vehicle components and full vehicles. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in automotive bodywork and the precision required to meet the stringent quality standards of major OEMs.

Core Responsibilities
  • Surface Preparation & Repair: Meticulously inspect, clean, repair, sand, fill, and smooth all designated vehicle surfaces or parts (including plastic and fiberglass) to ensure a flawless substrate for painting.
  • Finishing & Quality Control: Accurately apply primer and masking, and perform rigorous quality checks on all prepped areas to meet E-PPL and client quality standards before releasing the part for paint.
  • Maintenance & Safety: Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area, handle materials correctly, and strictly follow all safety and hazardous waste protocols.
  • Collaboration: Work effectively with team members and site supervisors to maintain a smooth, efficient workflow and meet project deadlines.
Requirements
  • Proven Expertise: Solid experience in automotive bodywork, sanding, and surface preparation. Experience with plastic and fiberglass repair is highly desirable.
  • Technical Proficiency: Skilled in using common hand tools and power tools used in body shop environments, with familiarity with various types of primers, fillers, and sealants.
  • Quality Focus: Demonstrable strong attention to detail and a commitment to precision necessary to achieve OEM-level quality.
  • Work Ethic: Ability to work efficiently and meet demanding production schedules and deadlines.
