Modo25 Limited is seeking a Lead Software Developer with strong Python expertise to guide a product-focused team in Leeds. The role bridges engineering leadership with strategic delivery, shaping scalable architectures and roadmaps.

You will lead design, code reviews, and mentorship while coordinating with the VP of Engineering and stakeholders to drive growth in a hybrid Leeds-based setting.

Qualifications

Job description

We are looking for a Lead Software Developer with expertise in Python development to join our dynamic product team. This is a pivotal role where you will work closely with our VP of Engineering and other key stakeholders to scale our products and drive significant growth over the coming years. As a technical leader, you will guide the team in developing robust, scalable solutions that align with our ambitious vision.

This is a hybrid role that will require travelling to our Leeds HQ weekly.

What you'll be doing

• Lead the design, development, and optimisation of Python-based applications, ensuring they are scalable and future-proof.
• Collaborate with the wider business to translate business goals and customer needs into technical solutions.
• Responsibility for delivery of technical roadmap for the product team, ensuring alignment with company objectives and growth targets.
• Foster a high-performing engineering culture through mentorship, collaboration, and best practices in software development.
• Conduct code reviews to maintain high-quality code standards and advocate for continuous improvement within the team.
• Build and manage scalable system architectures, ensuring optimal performance as the product and user base grow.
• Proactively identify and address technical challenges and bottlenecks in the development lifecycle.
• Stay ahead of industry trends, tools, and best practices, integrating them into the team’s workflows to drive innovation.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define and execute the product roadmap.

Requirements

• Proven experience as a Lead Software Developer or in a similar leadership role within a product-focused environment.
• Expertise in Python
• Strong understanding of building scalable, high-performance systems and applications.
• Experience working in a growth-driven product team, ideally within a scaling organisation.
• Proficiency in building and consuming RESTful APIs and working with microservices architecture.
• Solid experience with databases such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, or MongoDB.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) and containerization tools like Docker.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to manage competing priorities effectively.
• Strong leadership and communication skills, with a passion for mentoring and growing engineering talent.
