What will the role involve?
- Work closely with editorial leads and the Chief Sub‑Editor to ensure high‑standard copy for the Mirror and, as needed, the Express.
- Sub‑edit high‑profile Mirror page leads and shared content across both brands.
- Edit copy for print editions, ensuring it is polished, precise, impactful, fits allocated space, and is clear and plain English.
- Craft accurate and effective headlines that capture readers' attention.
- Fact‑check rigorously and adapt swiftly to breaking news, updating stories accurately as events unfold.
- Ensure every piece of copy strictly follows house style, internal guidelines, legal soundness and IPSO compliance.
- Balance speed with meticulous detail to maintain professional, ethical, high‑quality output.
- Work nine shifts a fortnight on a rolling rota, including regular weekend work (flexible schedule required).
Who are we looking for?
- Seasoned sub‑editor with experience in a national newsroom environment.
- Sharp editorial judgement and creative flair – able to decide instantly whether copy may remain unchanged or requires a high‑speed overhaul.
- Uncompromising eye for detail, strong understanding of media law.
- Proven track record of meeting strict, demanding deadlines.
