Paediatric Specialist Dietitian - Team Lead

Team Lead - Paediatric Specialist Dietitian Band 7 - 37.5 hours per week

Are you a passionate and experienced dietitian ready to take the next step in your career? We are looking for a dynamic and compassionate leader to join our friendly team. Your skills will shape the care of babies, children and young people across our services. You will lead a dedicated team of 4 paediatric dietitians and a dietetic assistant working across inpatient, outpatient and community settings.

In addition to team lead responsibilities, you will have responsibility for a defined cohort of patients. The team currently provide a general in and outpatient service as well as specialist diabetes service, supporting multi-allergy patients, babies on the neonatal unit and home enterally fed patients. There is some scope for flexibility in the clinical caseload depending on successful applicants clinical experience.

You will be expected to lead on service development, audit and quality improvement projects. Collaborate with MDT colleagues and support student training and CPD activities across the wider team. We offer excellent opportunities for professional development.

Main duties of the job

To lead on the provision of specialist paediatric dietetic service across an inpatient, outpatient and community settings in the Swindon area.To work as an autonomous practitioner providing expert care to children and young people requiring dieteticinput.To lead service development in across the paediatric dietetic team and to work closely with the multi-disciplinary team.To work as team lead for the paediatric dietetic team, undertaking line management duties and to providesupport for other team leads and the Head of service for Nutrition and Dietetics.

Experience
  • Extensive experience in applying dietetic care process in a range of clinical conditions in paediatrics including dietetic assessment, interpretation, individual care planning, motivation, monitoring and evaluation of highly specialised paediatric dietetic treatment. ? Wide experience of working with children with complex medical conditions such as neuro disabilities and neonatology. ? Wide experience of working in multi-disciplinary/ multi-professional team working with a diverse range of groups e.g. Patients, doctors, specialist nurses etc. ? Demonstrate experience and knowledge of safeguarding practices of children in the clinical area and child protection procedures ? Experience and knowledge of management processes to be able to provide first line management to other staff members ? Experience of producing complex dietetic resources e.g. leaflets, diet sheets, posters, guidelines and resources ? Experience of managing risk and reporting ? Experience in planning, delivery and evaluating assessments and training sessions ? Leading and participating in dietetic audit. Able to demonstrate evidence based audit of own practice and the practice of other staff within a specific clinical area. ? Experience in project management and planning ? Experience of setting up and implementing internal processes and procedures ? Input into developing departmental policies, procedures or care pathways. ? Sound working knowledge of IT systems including spreadsheets, and databases ? Demonstrates previous experience in relevant paediatric clinical area ? Able to evaluate current research and make recommendations for change in practice and implement these changes ? Experience in training and supervision of student dietitians ? Experience of working with patient groups ? Able to plan and deliver clinical education about theory and practice to individuals, team and the wider MDT including students. ? Experience in audit/research/QI projects ? Student training ? Training and support of Junior Dietetic staff members into fields of Paediatric Dietetics
Knowledge
  • Demonstrates strong clinical leadership skills ? Clear communicator with excellent writing, report writing and presentation skills; capable of constructing and delivering clear ideas and concepts concisely and accurately for diverse audiences ? Demonstrates a high level of communication skills adapted for a wide range of situations such as those with dysphasia, sensory impairment (deaf, blind), unable to accept a diagnosis; have cognitive and physical difficulties, or whose first language is not English. ? Demonstrates highly developed persuasive, motivational and counselling skills at all levels to overcome barriers to change. ? Extensive knowledge and skills in the field of paediatric dietetics ? Extensive knowledge and skills in child protection procedures ? To accurately use complex anthropometric measurement skills, e.g. weights, heights, skinfold calipers to devise clinical plan ? Evidence of success in efficient and effective project and programme management ? Strong ability to analyse and interpret complex matters including a range of treatment options some of which will be conflicting ? Ability to make judgements about and manage the service capacity, demands and priorities . ? Skills for initiating and nurturing key relationships and maintaining networks. ? Ability to analyse and interpret very complex information, pre -empt and evaluate issues, and recommend and appropriate course of action to address the issues ?
