Job summary

Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a dietitian to provide nutritional support for children within the gastroenterology team, covering both inpatient and outpatient settings with a range of conditions including IBD, motility and malabsorption disorders.

The role includes leadership for service provision, supervision of B6 rotational posts, and teaching for MDTs, peers and students, with a focus on patient safety and governance within a large NHS trust.

Responsibilities

• Inpatients: dietetic care for children admitted to the Children’s hospital under Gastroenterology; attend weekly MDT meetings.
• Inpatients: dietetic support for the surgical ward with complex cases and post-surgical gut issues.
• Outpatients: dietetic cover to consultant-led clinics and long-term diet support on specialist diets; some blended teleconferencing clinics.
• Outpatients: dietetic care to allergy clinic for complex patients and backfill for Band 6 when unavailable.
• Leadership for service provision and development.
• Clinical supervision and mentorship for B6 rotational posts.
• Teaching and education of MDT, peers and students.
• Adherence to governance, patient safety and risk.

Job description

Duties include providing nutritional support for children under the gastroenterology team (both inpatient & outpatient) with a wide range of clinical conditions including inflammatory bowel disease, motility disorders, functional disorders, intestinal failure, coeliac disease & other malabsorptive and congenital conditions requiring specialist dietetic input. There will be an opportunity to support short-gut patients on home PN in an MDT clinic.

Clinical

• Inpatients: provision of dietetic care to children admitted to the Children's hospital under the Gastroenterology team - this includes a wide range of complex conditions requiring specialist intervention. Attendance at the weekly MDT meetings.
• Inpatients: dietetic support for the surgical ward (wide variety of patient types including those who have had gut resections, Oesophageal atresia with gastric pull up, complex patients requiring specialist feed advice)
• Outpatients: provision of dietetic cover to consultant-led outpatient clinics and those patients requiring long-term dietetic support on specialist diets. This may include blended clinics with teleconferencing.
• Outpatients: provision of dietetic care to the Consultant-led allergy clinic for complex patients and backfill for the band 6 dietitian when unavailable.
