The purpose is to work with the School on projects to enhance recruitment and retention of trainees in paediatrics in London. 50% is allocated for this part of the role with the remaining 50% working in Acute General Paediatrics.
Recruitment in Paediatrics remains difficult with competition ratios around 2.0 making efforts to retain trainees within paediatrics particularly important. Training can be challenging for many reasons, and burnout is particularly high in paediatrics. Our data highlights issues with flexibility, workplace factors and unawareness of available resources. 15-20% of trainees entering paediatric training at ST1 do not go on to CCT in paediatrics
