Overview

Job summary: This is an exciting opportunity to join the Children's Safeguarding Team as a Band 7 specialist nurse advisor. We are looking for an experienced paediatric nurse or SCPHN to support Trust staff in safeguarding children through providing training, advice and support and safeguarding supervision. This is a part-time role but is shared with another team member to create a full-time post.

Responsibilities
  • The post holder is a recognised expert in safeguarding children and is responsible for supporting staff to identify and support children, young people and families at risk of harm.
  • Provide advice and support to frontline staff, deliver formal and informal training, and deliver safeguarding supervision.
  • Share information internally and within the multi-agency safeguarding network to enable robust safeguarding risk assessment.
  • Participate in and lead clinical audits in own specialist area and contribute to developing robust clinical governance procedures.
  • Represent CUH at multi-agency meetings including strategy meetings, safeguarding conferences and core group/child in need meetings, discharge planning meetings.
  • Work as part of the safeguarding children partnership and collaborate within the multi-agency network.

Qualifications

  • Essential: Diploma or Degree RN Children, OR RN Adult with Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (Health Visiting / School nurse); Evidence of continuous professional development; Significant experience of working with children
  • Desirable: Research module; Masters degree; Post-registration qualification in speciality; Teaching qualification; Safeguarding Supervisor qualification

Experience

  • Essential: Evidence of safeguarding children practice processes and working with complex child protection issues; Experience in developing, delivering and evaluating training; Collaborative inter-agency working; Identifying and evaluating areas for service improvement; Governance experience including auditing and reviewing practice or services; Managing own workload; Working in multi-disciplinary teams; Awareness of safeguarding, equal opportunities, confidentiality, and information sharing
  • Desirable: Developing training strategies; Statutory and legal processes; Plan changes in policy/procedure; Acting up into senior roles

Knowledge

  • Essential: Knowledge of safeguarding Children legislation and guidance; Knowledge of PREVENT, modern slavery and Domestic Abuse processes including MARAC; Knowledge of children\'s health services
  • Desirable: Awareness of adult safeguarding legislation and guidance (Care Act 2014, Mental Capacity Act 2019)
