Job summary

The Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust is expanding its POSCU for Children and Teenagers with Cancer and seeks an experienced nurse to take on the role of Paediatric Oncology Sister. The post requires an RN Child and high-level clinical knowledge with paediatric senior nursing experience (band 5/6).

An accredited or willingness to undertake chemotherapy training is desirable. Two posts are available: Post 1 (permanent) 30 hours/week; Post 2 (fixed-term for one year) 30 hours/week.

Qualifications

  • RN Child with senior banding in paediatric nursing and cancer care.
  • 1st Level Nursing degree with relevant post-registration training desirable.
  • Experience caring for children and teenagers with cancer and families.

Responsibilities

  • Care for paediatric oncology patients on the Children's Ward and administer chemotherapy.
  • Develop and deliver teaching programmes for staff.
  • Collaborate with Lead Nurse and Clinical Nurse Specialist to enhance services.

Band 6 Paediatric Oncology Sister for Children and Teenagers with Cancer

Post 1 - 30 hours per week, Permanent Post

Post 2 - 30 hours per week, Fixed term for One Year

Due to the new national review of POSCU services we have the exciting opportunity to expand our team. The Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust is moving towards being an Enhanced Level A POSCU for Children and Teenagers with Cancer. To support the development of this service, we have an exciting opportunity for an experienced nurse to undertake the role of Paediatric Oncology Sister for Children and Teenagers with Cancer.

You will need to be an RN Child and have a high level of up-to-date relevant clinical knowledge and experience in paediatric nursing at senior band 5 or band 6, a 1st Level Nursing degree and experience of caring for children and teenagers with cancer and their families. An accredited post registration chemotherapy qualification in this specialist area of nursing practice is desirable or the willingness to undertake the training.

The post holder will work closely with the Lead Nurse and Clinical Nurse Specialist for Children and Teenagers with Cancer to continue to develop a high quality service for children and teenagers with cancer and their families. You will work as part of the team to ensure the safe care of paediatric oncology patients on the Children's Ward and administration of chemotherapy. You will have a key role in the development and delivery of teaching programmes for staff. Excellent communication skills will be needed to work across both professional and organisational boundaries in order to ensure co-ordinated patient care for these children, teenagers and their families. You should also be confident and self-motivated utilising the benefit of your clinical knowledge and experience and be able to act as a resource to all levels of healthcare professionals and support staff.
