Mediplacements are currently looking to recruit an experienced Oncology Pharmacist for a locum role in London.
The pay for this position is £35-£45 per hour, and we are looking for someone who can start as soon as possible for an ongoing duration.
Main purpose of the job:
To be an expert in pharmaceutical matters for the treatment of childhood cancer.
To be a member of a team of specialist pharmacists delivering a comprehensive clinical pharmacy service to the Haematology and Oncology Departments.
To manage and further develop the ward based pharmacy service on the Inpatient Haematology/Oncology wards.
To promote and contribute to the education and training of healthcare professionals.
To promote and contribute to the education and training of staff working or rotating through the Cytotoxics unit.
Main duties and responsibilities:
This job description is intended as an outline of the areas of activity and can be amended in the light of the changing needs of the service and will be reviewed as necessary in conjunction with the post-holder.
- To deliver a clinical pharmacy service to the Inpatient and Daycare Haematology/Oncology wards, including screening chemotherapy and its supportive care as required.
- To negotiate with the consultants, divisional pharmacist and senior nursing staff to ensure the service is delivered safely and meets the needs of the patients by:
- Promoting the safe and cost-effective use of medicines, in particular Homecare.
- Providing seamless pharmaceutical care to patients from admission through to discharge and between interfaces. This will include providing information to Paediatric Oncology Shared Care units (POSCUs) and other care providers to allow continuity of care.
- Providing information to parents and carers on their child's medicines, identifying specific problems with understanding or ability to take medicines and providing solutions.
- To participate in the standardisation and validation of new chemotherapy protocols including trial protocols.
- To be trained for GCP and GMP requirements as appropriate for the role.
- To support principal pharmacist with writing and updating guidelines, reporting on SACT and attending meetings if deputising.
- To contribute and participate in Chemotherapy Governance Group Meetings.
- Deputising as Pharmacy Intrathecal Lead if necessary.
- To promote the safe prescribing of medicines and reduce the potential for harm caused because of a prescribing error by:
- Training medical staff in the safe prescribing of medicines.
- Providing supported prescribing for medical and non-medical prescribers.
- Facilitating prescribing meetings.
- Providing feedback to prescribers on prescribing and errors.
- Making recommendations to improve standards to the Divisional Pharmacist and Divisional Management team.
- Following Clinical Trial SOPs.
- Be an active member of the multidisciplinary team:
- Attend ward rounds.
- Provide advice on new drugs.
- Management of clinical trials (with support from Clinical Trials pharmacy staff) and training of medical and nursing staff. This may include providing advice both within and outside the Trust.
- To develop and review treatment guidelines with clinicians in order to promote evidence-based, cost-effective prescribing within the unit, taking into account all relevant local and national policies and procedures.
- To provide advice and medicines information both inside and outside the Trust.
- To support the Principal Pharmacist in preparing submission for the Drug & Therapeutics Committee.
- To support the Clinical Trials pharmacist in the setting up and review of clinical trials.
