Job summary

NHS Professionals is seeking a Children’s Occupational Therapist to join the team in South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust. You will work with children and families to improve health, well-being and functional independence through paediatric OT interventions.

You will collaborate with Speech and Language Therapy, Physiotherapy, Mental Health Support Teams and Getting Help services to deliver holistic care and positive outcomes in the community.

Qualifications

• HCPC-registered Occupational Therapist with a Degree in Occupational Therapy.
• Extensive paediatric Occupational Therapy experience with up-to-date specialist CPD.
• Knowledge of child development, safeguarding and neurodevelopmental approaches.
• Experience working within multidisciplinary teams, supervising staff and students, and delivering training.
• Strong specialist assessment, communication, clinical reasoning, organisational and prioritisation skills.

Responsibilities

• Communicate clearly with children, parents, carers and professionals about therapy plans, outcomes and discharge arrangements.
• Support safeguarding responsibilities by recognising at-risk children and initiating referrals as needed.
• Assist safe discharge planning by liaising with professionals, families and external agencies.
• Provide specialist education and training to colleagues, school staff and other healthcare professionals.
• Ensure resources and the clinical environment are used safely and effectively, including equipment planning.
• Maintain professional competence through CPD, supervision, training and involvement in audits and research.
