Paediatric Occupational Therapist - band 5

We are recruiting to a full- time B5 post in our Community Paediatric OT Service. The post holder will be based in Ipswich, and cover community patches across a wider geographical area; much of the post holders working week will be spent working in the community.

We are looking for an OT who is keen to develop their skills in paediatrics within a supportive team (Band 5). We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Occupational Therapist who is keen to gain valuable experience or develop further in the exciting field of paediatrics, and be a part of our well established Occupational Therapy team. The successful candidate will join our large and supportive Occupational Therapy team using a person centred, occupation based approach, committed to delivering high quality intervention.

The role will initially focus on supporting children and young people whose sensory difficulties have a significant impact on occupation and function.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be based with other OTs and work within a multi-disciplinary team and other therapy services to deliver OT pathways and packages of care.

We continue to review and develop our clinical care pathways with active staff involvement, and value evidence informed practice and outcome measures.

The post holder will:

• Undertake Occupational Therapy assessments of children, and prioritise, plan and develop a programme of OT intervention using a client centred approach in accordance with our clinical pathways, and with supervision and support from a Band 7 therapist.
• Set clear functional goals in consultation with parents/ teachers,
• Empower parents and carers in understanding the nature of their child's disability or dysfunction, the impact it has on behaviour and function and the activities and strategies they can use in the daily routines at home to develop their child's play and functional abilities

We offer a strong internal supervision structure with regular CPD and training opportunities, including access to external courses.

The successful candidate will need good communication skills and a strong desire to work in community paediatrics, with relevant experience preferred

The successful applicant must have an OT degree and be registered with the HCPC and the post is subject to a DBS check.

STAFF CAR PARKING

Staff Car Parking on the West Suffolk Hospital Site is eligible for individuals working outside of the core hours, 07:00 18:30.

For individuals working within the core hours, the Trust offers parking off site at the Bury St Edmunds Rugby Club, which is serviced by a regular shuttle bus to and from the Hospital. Details of the bus timetable can be found in the on-line starter pack on the West Suffolk Hospital website.

This parking restriction does not apply if an individual is required to work on a weekend or if they are required to complete on call duties within their role.

Person Specification

Education and qualifications

• Degree or equivalent diploma in Occupational Therapy
• HCPC Registration
• Evidence of CPD maintained in a portfolio
• Membership of RCOT
• Membership of Specialist Interest Group (Children, Young People and Families)

Experience and knowledge

• Demonstration of clinical assessment and intervention knowledge
• Knowledge, training, and experience of a range of treatment techniques and approaches
• Experience and working knowledge of children
• Knowledge /experience of the impact of a child's disability on occupational performance and the child's family / carers
• Facilitation and involvement in audit and understanding of quality issues
• Previous Band 5 experience or evidence of working on clinical cases
