Job summary

James Paget University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking an experienced Neurodevelopmental assessment practitioner to support our Newberry Child Development Centre as we expand our Neurodevelopmental pathways.

You will assess and diagnose neurodevelopmental differences including Autism and ADHD, communicate results to families, and participate in multidisciplinary discussions to shape a high-quality, equitable assessment service.

Qualifications

• Provide specialist assessment for children aged 2–19 as part of diagnostic investigations for a Neurodevelopmental Disorder.
• Be trained and experienced or willing to train to deliver ASD and ADHD assessments.
• Communicate outcomes clearly to young people, parents and professionals at feedback meetings.
• Work autonomously with accurate records and caseload management.
• Engage in supervision and contribute to multidisciplinary diagnostic meetings.

Responsibilities

• Deliver Autism Spectrum Disorder and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder assessments.
• Communicate assessment outcomes, diagnosis, and recommended support strategies to families.
• Maintain comprehensive records and manage own caseload with prioritisation.
• Participate in supervision and contribute to MDT diagnostic discussions and training.

Job description

We are seeking an experienced and motivated professional with significant experience of working with children and young people with Neurodevelopmental conditions. This is an exciting time for our NDD service at the Newberry Child Development Centre, as we significantly expand our team to be able to deliver our newly launched Neurodevelopmental pathways. This role will involve the assessment and diagnosis of children and young people with neurodevelopmental differences, including Autism and ADHD.

The post holder will act as a key member of the clinical team, assisting with shaping and embedding a high-quality, timely and equitable NDD assessment service.

• Provide specialist assessment for children aged between 2 and 19 as part of diagnostic investigations for a Neurodevelopmental Disorder. This will be both in a clinic setting and through observation in school.
• Be appropriately trained and experienced or willing to train to deliver all aspects of Autism Spectrum Disorder and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder assessments.
• Demonstrate knowledge in the clinical specialism of Neurodevelopmental Disorders, underpinned by current evidence-based practice.
• To effectively and sensitively communicate the outcome of assessment to young people, parents and professionals at feedback meetings. Clearly explain the diagnosis, outcomes and recommended support strategies. Signpost families to appropriate avenues of support.
• To work autonomously, keeping accurate and comprehensive records, managing own caseload and prioritising work as needed.
• Engage in formal and informal supervision.
• Contribute towards multidisciplinary discussion at the Great Yarmouth and Waveney Assessment Group diagnostic meetings.
• To support delivery of training to multi-disciplinary team and others.
