Responsibilities
- Monitor and assess the health conditions of neonates and children.
- Administer medications, treatments, and vaccinations as prescribed.
- Provide postnatal care for newborns, including feeding support and health monitoring.
- Assist with specialized procedures such as intubation, catheterization, and neonatal resuscitation.
- Educate parents and caregivers about child health, nutrition, and safety.
- Provide emotional support and guidance to families during challenging medical situations.
- Collaborate with families to create personalized care plans.
- Care for premature and critically ill newborns requiring advanced medical interventions.
- Operate and monitor life-support equipment, such as ventilators and incubators.
- Administer total parenteral nutrition (TPN) and manage intravenous lines.
- Assess and promote developmental milestones for infants and children.
- Advocate for therapeutic interventions and play-based recovery activities.
- Work with paediatricians, neonatologists, respiratory therapists, and other healthcare professionals.
- Document patient histories, progress, and treatment plans accurately.
- Ensure smooth transitions of care between hospital and home settings.
- Mentor and train junior nursing staff and nursing students.
- Participate in ongoing professional development to remain up-to-date with best practices in paediatrics and neonatology.
Skills and Qualifications
- Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSc Nursing) or equivalent; specialization in Paediatric or Neonatal Nursing preferred.
- Licensure: Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing.
- Certifications: Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), Basic Life Support (BLS), and Paediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).
- Experience: Prior experience in paediatrics or NICU is highly desirable.
- Skills:
- Compassion and patience when working with children and their families.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Attention to detail, particularly in high-pressure environments like NICUs.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize in fast-paced settings.
