Job summary

Join our community nursing services as a Paediatric Haemoglobinopathy Clinical Nurse Specialist. This new role supports both community and hospital services at MMUH.

As part of the Haemoglobinopathy improvement programme, we seek a passionate Community Haemoglobinopathy Nurse to collaborate with specialist teams and community services, serving children with sickle cell and thalassaemia across our region.

This is an excellent opportunity to showcase your skills and support specialist/non-specialist haemoglobinopathy services in the community.

The post holder will contribute to delivering and developing high-quality haemoglobinopathy services in collaboration with the teams, providing care at home and in hospital as needed to ensure standards and equity of care.

Main duties of the job

Work with haemoglobinopathy teams across the West Midlands to develop and deliver a high-quality community-based haemoglobinopathy service, caring for children with sickle cell disease and thalassaemia in various settings to improve standards and equity of care.

Job responsibilities

Provide specialist nursing support to ensure high-quality care for children and young people with haemoglobinopathy disorders in both acute and community settings.

Person Specification
Experience
  • NMC registration, sub-part one children
  • Experience working with children with Sickle Cell, Thalassaemia, or other haemoglobinopathies
  • Continuous professional development, ideally at Masters or postgraduate level
  • Significant clinical experience and specialist knowledge in haemoglobinopathies
  • Management experience ensuring clinical outcomes
  • Experience in staff recruitment and retention
  • Clinical skills in patient assessment, care planning, and care implementation
  • Provision of specialist advice and education to staff, students, and patients
  • Experience leading or participating in research and clinical audits
  • Experience in service improvement and development within haemoglobinopathy care
Qualifications
  • Mentoring and assessment skills
  • Child protection training at level 3
  • Clinical leadership training
  • Masters or postgraduate qualification in Non-Medical Prescribing
