Job overview

An exciting post has become available within the Paediatric Diabetes Team for a highly motivated, experienced paediatric nurse with a passion and interest in paediatric diabetes at Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust.

We are based in Salisbury District Hospital and support families living in parts of Wiltshire, Dorset and Hampshire. We have a growing number of children and young people on our case load using both injection and insulin pump therapy.

The successful candidate will join an established, extremely driven team who will support them to develop their own skills.

The successful applicant will need to be a children’s nurse with a minimum of 3 years post qualification experience as well as enthusiasm and commitment to paediatric diabetes. We are happy to accept applications from paediatric nurses without a specific diabetes qualification who are keen to join our team while they undertake further relevant formal training to consolidate their skills.

Main duties of the job

  • In conjunction with other members of the Paediatric Diabetes Team, co-ordinate care for children and young people with diabetes and their families, assessing, developing, implementing, and evaluating programmes of holistic care and providing specialist clinical advice to health care professionals and others.
  • To provide education and support for children and young people with diabetes and their families in both the acute and community setting.
  • To ensure that all children, young people, and their families receive a comprehensive, holistic, and developmental approach to family centred diabetes education and management.
  • To work effectively as a member of the multi-disciplinary team to meet the outcomes of care which are required for the Best Practice Tariff.
  • To support in the delivery of care to children and young people with cystic fibrosis related diabetes

Education Qualifications and Training

  • Paediatric Registered Nurse with a Diploma , Advanced diploma or degree
  • NMC approved assessor or supervisor qualification
  • Evidence of ongoing personal and professional development
  • Post registration qualification in paediatric diabetes or willingness to undertake training
  • Full driving licence
  • Leadership and Management course

Experience

  • Relevant experience caring for CYP in community and / or acute setting
  • Experience of current diabetes management
  • Evidence of leadership and management within a health care structure
