Job summary

University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust in Coventry is seeking an experienced paediatric nurse to provide high-quality, evidence-based care to critically ill children and young people across Coventry and Warwickshire. You will lead and supervise the nursing team, role model clinical practice, respond to deteriorating patients, and support bed management and ward leadership.

Ward 16 cares for children aged 2-12 with medical and surgical conditions; training for oncology

Qualifications

• Paediatric care for children and young people
• Clinical leadership and supervision of nursing team
• Experience leading a ward or shift in a paediatric setting to ensure care quality

Responsibilities

• Lead and supervise the paediatric nursing team to deliver safe, effective, child- and family-centred care
• Recognise and respond promptly to deterioration in paediatric patients and coordinate escalation
• Support bed management and deputise for ward leadership as needed

Job description

To provide high-quality, evidence-based nursing care to critically ill and children and young people from across Coventry & Warwickshire.

The post holder will work as an experienced clinical practitioner and provide effective leadership and supervision to the nursing team, ensuring safe, effective and child- and family-centred care. They will act as a role model for junior staff and support the Band 7/ward leadership team in maintaining high standards of clinical practice, patient safety and service delivery.

The post holder will demonstrate an ability to recognise and respond promptly to the deteriorating child, prioritise workload, coordinate the clinical area and escalation concerns appropriately., A shift/team leader, providing clinical leadership and management support, developing and evaluating best practice within the department. The post-holder will deputise for the department manager as required.

Ward 16 comprises of 24 beds caring for children and young people predominantly between the ages of 2-12 with a wide range of medical and surgical conditions.

Ward 16 is also provides shared care with BCH for local families with an Oncology diagnosis as such there will be a requirement to complete training to care for these young people.

The successful applicant will after training be expected to hold the Paediatric bleep supporting the unit, attending medical emergencies as well as supporting with Bed Management responsibilities.
